Bohinka

The Bohinka Cycle Path is a beautifully maintained cycling route that gently leads riders from Lake Bled, through the heart of the Bohinj Valley, all the way to the shores of Lake Bohinj.

The Bohinka Cycling Path stretches for 34 kilometers one way, naturally linking Lake Bled with Lake Bohinj. Riding the full route there and back adds up to 68 kilometers of cycling, with approximately 500 meters of total elevation gain—a rewarding yet accessible ride for recreational cyclists and e-bike riders alike.

Cyclists can choose their preferred direction, riding from Bled to Bohinj and back, or starting at Lake Bohinj and cycling toward Bled. The gentle profile of the route makes both options equally enjoyable. For those who prefer a more relaxed day on the bike, the route can also be ridden one way only. In this case, a convenient train connection between Bohinjska Bistrica and Bled allows cyclists to comfortably return to their starting point—making the Two Lakes Cycling Path flexible, accessible, and easy to tailor to your own pace.

The Bohinka Cycling Path follows a natural, flowing line—just like the river itself—as it winds gently through the valley alongside the Sava Bohinjka River. The route meanders through open landscapes and charming, traditional villages of the Gorenjska region, offering a constantly changing yet harmonious riding experience. Cyclists cross the river several times via well-designed cycling bridges, adding variety and visual interest to the journey. While the route is dynamic and never completely flat, the climbs and descents are mostly gentle, with only two short, steeper sections—making the ride enjoyable and accessible for most cyclists.

Along the way, the trail passes numerous natural highlights, cultural landmarks, and architectural points of interest. From the main route, cyclists can easily extend their ride to nearby attractions such as Savica Waterfall, the Mostnica Gorge, or continue cycling toward Radovljica. On the Bled side of the valley, a detour to the Vintgar Gorge offers another unforgettable natural experience.

Rest Areas & Refreshments

Along the Bohinka Cycling Path, several designated cycling rest areas provide perfect spots for a short break and relaxation.

At multiple points along the route, cyclists can easily stop to buy food in local shops, enjoy a snack or lunch in traditional restaurants and inns, and experience local cuisine along the way.

Both main destinations—Bled and the settlements around Lake Bohinj, including Bohinjska Bistrica—offer a wide selection of restaurants, cafés, and dining options, making it easy to plan your ride at a relaxed and enjoyable pace. Drinking water is also readily available along the route, with four designated drinking water fountains.

Safety & Riding Guidelines

The Bohinka Cycling Path is bidirectional, so cyclists are expected to ride on the correct side of the trail and follow traffic regulations. In certain sections, the route briefly joins public roads shared with other traffic. Extra caution is required here, along with full respect for road rules and other road users.
